Tourist admission
Argentina’s National Directorate of Migration defines a tourist as a foreign visitor entering for rest or recreation. The authorised stay can be up to three months and may be extended for another similar period 1.
Tourist status does not authorise paid work. A traveller whose purpose is employment, study or residence needs the appropriate status rather than relying on tourist admission 1.
Passport or regional identity document
A current passport is the general travel document. Nationals of Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador and Colombia may instead present a current eligible identity card or travel document issued by their country 1.
When a tourist visa is required
A national of a country without a visa-exemption agreement must obtain a tourist visa. The official application page requires a passport valid for at least six months on the date of entry, with at least one blank leaf, plus the application, photographs and evidence supporting the visit 2.
The visa application and border admission are separate decisions. Carry the documents used to show the visit purpose and ability to leave at the end of the stay.
Before travel
- Confirm the visa rule with an Argentine consulate for the passport you will use 2.
- Check that the passport or eligible regional identity document is current 1.
- Keep evidence of the tourist purpose and return or onward plan.
- Apply for an extension before the authorised stay expires if you need more time 1.
