Passport and identity documents

Peru’s migration authority states that a tourist passport must have at least six months’ validity. A traveller who does not meet that threshold may be refused admission 1.

Citizens covered by the Andean Community and Mercosur arrangements may present an eligible identity document. Other foreign visitors use a passport or accepted travel document 1,2.

Check whether a visa is required

The Foreign Ministry publishes lists of nationalities exempt from and subject to the transit-visa requirement under Supreme Decree 004-2025-RE. Travellers should use the current official list for the passport they will present 3.

Where a consular visa is required, it must be obtained before travel. Border control still determines the stay actually authorised 1,2.

Entry record and authorised stay

The Virtual Andean Migration Card is created automatically at the migration counter. The tourist can later consult it to confirm the official movement record and authorised stay 1,2.

A traveller must complete migration control when entering and leaving. Skipping control at a land border can cause a missing movement record and problems on later departure or re-entry 1.

Before travel

  • Confirm six months of passport validity 1.
  • Check the Foreign Ministry nationality list for the visa rule 3.
  • Use an identity card only if the official regional rule covers your citizenship and document 1,2.
  • After entry, check the Virtual Andean Migration Card and authorised stay 1,2.
