Apply before travel
Uganda's immigration authority says visa-required travellers must use the online portal and obtain a Travel Authorization or Visa Approval Letter before departure. Visas are not issued on arrival 2.
The approval letter is emailed after a decision. Print or save it and present it with the passport used in the application 4.
Fee and documents
The tourist visa costs US$50. Fees are non-refundable and card or bank charges can be added 1.
A tourism application needs a passport biodata copy with at least 6 months left, a recent photograph, tour plan, travel itinerary or booking, and a hotel booking or other accommodation address 1.
Validity and stay
The approval authorisation must be used within 90 days of approval. The visa can be granted for a stay of up to 3 months. The exact period admitted is recorded at entry 1.
An initial visitor period can be extended for another 60 days in two intervals through the stated immigration process 1.
East Africa Tourist Visa
The joint visa costs US$100 and permits multiple tourist entries among Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for 90 days. The country that issues it must be your first entry point 3.
It is not renewable and stops applying after exit from the three-country bloc. It does not permit employment 3.
Avoid unofficial forms
Uganda Immigration warns that visas should be filed only at visas.immigration.go.ug and says the government does not charge a fast-track fee 2,4.
