Who needs ETA-IL
ETA-IL is for travellers who are exempt from obtaining an Israeli visitor visa. Since 1 January 2025, they must obtain approval before starting the journey 1,2.
A traveller who already holds the appropriate Israeli visa does not need ETA-IL for that trip. Accredited diplomats, qualifying long-stay visa holders and airline crew on duty are among the stated exemptions 1,2.
Fee and validity
The government fee is NIS25 and is non-refundable. The approval lasts for up to two years or until the linked passport expires, whichever comes first 1,2.
A new application is required after a new passport or a change of name, gender or citizenship. ETA-IL does not itself grant two years of stay. A visit can be authorised for up to 90 days 2.
Apply on the official site
Use israel-entry.piba.gov.il. Official guidance says a response can be expected within 72 hours and warns applicants to use a gov.il site 3.
Approval permits travel to border control. It does not replace the immigration examination or guarantee admission 2.
Before applying
- Confirm that the passport nationality is visa-exempt.
- Use the passport that will be used for travel.
- Apply before departure and allow for the stated 72-hour response window 3.
- Save the approval and payment receipt.
